I started making jewelry about 15 years ago when one of my friends who I was traveling with showed me how to wrap silver wire. Soon after, I went to the Quartzite gem show and got a job where I would get paid a little bit of cash, but most of my pay came in inventory. Being that I lived out of a backpack, and I had recently learned how to wrap wire, it was an ideal situation to allow me to perfect my craft. I continued to collect small gem quality stone I could use in jewelry, and as I traveled across the country, making jewelry ended up being something I could make money with everywhere along the way. I spent about 10 years making wire wraps and making connections at the gem show.
After a while I wanted to make something more solid than wire work , so I went to Silvera Jewelry School in Berkeley where I learned lost wax casting.
Lost cast waxing is a process of making jewelry where I start by handcrafting a wax model of the piece I want to make. Then I use the wax model to make a mold. From there, the mold goes in a kiln where the wax is melted out and the mold is hardened. Then I take the mold out of the kiln and pour silver in it. The result is one-of-a-kind, quality silver jewelry.
I handmake every mold, meaning each piece of jewelry is unique. All of the rings and pendants from The Sterling Cache are made from high-quality sterling silver, and I still frequently visit gem shows across the country to source the gemstones. When you purchase silver jewelry from The Sterling Cache, you are guaranteed that you're receiving a one-of-a-kind piece that was made by hand.
